Artist Statement
Helena Janecic
Batchelor degree in visual arts from Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina, and the Academy of fine Arts in Zagreb, Croatia.
Her work is among one of the first in Croatia to deal with homosexual identity, and the first to openly show images of lesbian sexuality. Previous work deals with the genre of self- portraiture, gender identity, stereotypes in gender roles especially in the work “Snaše” (Gallery SC, Zagreb, 2008.)
The artist also uses other media in order to create the space for social and activist dialog, such as performing in a music band followed with visual materials such as posters and comics.
